Overview
Krag is a dim, mineral-rich world near the Outer Rim, defined by black mountain ranges, volcanic fractures, deep excavation scars, and sprawling fortified settlements. Weak sunlight struggles through its dense, ash-heavy atmosphere, leaving the surface beneath a permanent bronze-gray twilight. Glowing magma channels and industrial energy networks illuminate the darkness, making the planet appear from orbit like a sphere of cracked stone with fire burning beneath its surface.
The primitive mining fields associated with Krag belong largely to its ancestral past. For hundreds of cycles, the early Kraggonians were enslaved by foreign powers and forced to extract the planet’s resources using brutal manual labor, crude machinery, and dangerous deep-core excavation methods. Their rebellion ended that era and became the foundation of modern Kraggonian civilization. Today, Kraggonians are an advanced spacefaring species whose engineering, weapons, armor, and starships grew from the industrial knowledge their ancestors once used in servitude.

The Ancestral Pits: Preserved mining regions where enslaved Kraggonians once labored before the uprising
The Ember Veins: Glowing planetary fractures that provide geothermal energy to modern settlements
The Broken Chains: Monumental ruins and memorial sites marking major victories during the rebellion
The Iron Havens: Fortified cities containing shipyards, foundries, clan strongholds, and launch platforms
Reputation
Feared as the heavily defended homeworld of the Kraggonian Break Crews
Known for producing brutal warships, reinforced armor, and heavily modified weapons
Considered nearly impossible to occupy because of its terrain, gravity, and decentralized defenses
Revered by Kraggonians as the world where their ancestors seized freedom and built a civilization
Environment & Aesthetic
Krag’s environment combines natural volcanic brutality with the imposing infrastructure of an advanced industrial civilization. Jagged mountains rise above molten ravines, while fortified cities are built into canyon walls, ancient mines, and enormous subterranean chambers. Towering foundries, shipyards, defense batteries, and launch platforms dominate the horizon. Orange furnace light, molten metal, engine exhaust, and illuminated energy conduits provide much of the planet’s visible color.
Modern Kraggonian technology retains a heavy pirate-industrial appearance despite its sophistication. Their machines are rarely smooth or minimalist. They favor reinforced hulls, exposed mechanisms, thick armor plating, chains, rivets, brutal silhouettes, and visible signs of repair or customization. Even their most advanced spacecraft resemble ancient seafaring pirate vessels rebuilt with engines, weapons, navigation systems, and spaceflight technology. Kraggonian design celebrates durability and character rather than elegance.
Kraggonian Spacecraft
Kraggonian vessels are among the most visually distinctive ships in the galaxy. Rather than abandoning the imagery of piracy, they deliberately construct spacecraft that resemble enormous wooden or metal seafaring ships, complete with elevated decks, sails, masts, railings, cannons, and clan banners. Beneath that appearance are powerful propulsion systems, navigation arrays, energy weapons, reinforced hull plating, and advanced spaceflight controls.
The exposed decks are protected by an invisible atmospheric containment barrier. This field surrounds the vessel and holds breathable air close to the ship, allowing passengers to walk freely on deck while traveling through space. The same barrier regulates temperature, blocks radiation and minor debris, and prevents crew members or loose objects from drifting away. From a distance, the vessel appears completely open to the vacuum, making the sight of Kraggonians casually standing on deck especially unnerving to outsiders.
These atmospheric barriers are not intended to replace the ship’s physical armor. During combat, a second defensive layer can reinforce the field against weapons fire and high-speed impacts. However, Kraggonians often prioritize engine power, armor, and offensive capability over comfort, giving their ships a reputation for surviving damage that would destroy more refined vessels.
Their spacefaring pirate ships symbolize the central contradiction of modern Kraggonian culture: they possess advanced technology, yet deliberately shape it around the visual identity of ancient raiders. To them, the pirate ship is not an outdated design. It is a declaration that their freedom travels with them wherever they go.
